In 1923, Ted Eggmann beat future International Tennis Hall of Famer George Lott to win the Illinois State Doubles Championship. It took 94 years for another Metro East team to win one.
Doubles was his game. Paired with Wray Brown, he was never defeated in St. Louis and lost only twice in the Missouri Valley over eight years. At Cornell he won Eastern Intercollegiate singles and doubles and the first Indoor Intercollegiate doubles title. He qualified for two U.S. National Championships.
In 1945, years past his prime, local newspapers were still billing him as "Ted Eggmann of Cornell."
Some reputations outlast the record books.
His son Jack made sure none of it was forgotten. The Hall of Fame Ted helped fill, Jack helped build.
