The Clayton native developed a Western forehand that became her signature. And her weapon. From 1959 through 1971, she won nine St. Louis district singles titles. She took five consecutive Missouri Valley open singles titles between 1965 and 1969. With Lydia Wieberg, she won National Public Parks doubles titles in 1965 and 1967, then kept winning into the 40s division.
When she stepped off the court, the numbers were staggering: 11 Dwight Davis singles championships, 18 more in doubles and mixed doubles, 20 combined Martin J. Kennedy titles. National Senior Olympics singles golds in 1987, 1989, 1990 and 1991.
She ran tournaments, stayed active in the Muny Tennis Association for more than 30 years and kept coordinating events at Dwight Davis until 2007. "You would like her as soon as you met her," said Judy Dippold. "She always had a twinkle in her eye. She would be a friend to anyone."
Mueller died in 2017.
