Who we are

The St. Louis Tennis Hall of Fame is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the remarkable legacy of the city’s tennis greats—players, coaches, and contributors who have left an indelible mark on the sport. St. Louis has long been a powerhouse in American tennis, producing legendary figures whose influence has shaped the game both nationally and internationally. From trailblazers like Dwight Davis, the founder of the Davis Cup, to icons like Jimmy Connors, whose fiery competitiveness made him one of the greatest players of all time, St. Louis has been home to some of the sport’s most influential figures. Arthur Ashe, though more commonly associated with Richmond, Virginia, spent formative years training in St. Louis, where he refined his game and was mentored by St. Louis tennis coach Richard Hudlin, further cementing the city’s place in tennis history.

Beyond the global superstars, St. Louis has been a cradle for top-tier talent across generations. Justina Bricka, a St. Louis native, made waves in the 1960s, competing in the U.S. Open and becoming the only player ever to defeat tennis legend Billie Jean King in both singles and doubles in the same tournament. Carol Aucamp, another standout player, left her mark on collegiate and professional tennis, helping to elevate the city’s reputation as a breeding ground for excellence. These athletes, along with countless others, have contributed to a deep and enduring legacy that continues to inspire young players in St. Louis and beyond.

The city’s tennis history is not just about individual champions—it’s about the community, institutions, and coaches who nurtured these players. From the historic Dwight Davis Tennis Center in Forest Park to the network of dedicated coaches and clubs that have developed generations of talent, St. Louis has consistently proven itself as a vital force in American tennis. The spirit of competition and sportsmanship that began over a century ago continues to thrive today, with young players striving to follow in the footsteps of those who came before them.

To honor this extraordinary legacy, we are committed to building a permanent home for the St. Louis Tennis Hall of Fame. This dedicated space will not only commemorate the achievements of St. Louis' tennis legends but also serve as an educational and inspirational hub for future generations. By raising funds and rallying community support, we aim to create a lasting tribute that will solidify St. Louis’ reputation as a foundational city in U.S. tennis history. The Hall of Fame will ensure that the stories of these remarkable players are preserved for years to come, inspiring the next wave of champions to emerge from this great city.
